At 3:50AM on Tues., July 2, 2024, Naperville’s Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call for the reported residential structure fire on the 2700 block of Willow Ridge Drive. ECC immediately dispatched a general alarm assignment. A general alarm assignment consists of three engines, two ladder trucks, one heavy rescue squad, two medic units, and two battalion commanders.
At 3:57AM, the first arriving companies arrived on the scene and reported heavy fire coming from the rear of the home and up through the attic. Initial arriving companies completed a 360-degree survey of the structure, provided an on-scene report, established command, and began fire operations.
Four individuals were home at the time of the incident; all four (one male, one female, and two children) were able to exit the home before the fire department arrived.
Fire companies utilized defensive fire operations, including multiple handlines and elevated master streams due to the heavy amount of fire throughout the home and to control the spread of fire to nearby structures.
The alarm was upgraded to the box alarm level, bringing additional firefighters to the scene. The Naperville Fire Department UAS (Drone) team was used to assist in locating active and hidden fires. The fire was controlled within 90 minutes, and companies remained on the scene for another three hours to extinguish remaining spot fires and conduct overhaul operations.
The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department, The Naperville Electric Department, The Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District, The Bolingbrook Fire Department, Downers Grove Fire Department, Warrenville Fire Protection District, and Nicor. The Wheaton Fire Department, Westmont Fire Department, and Oswego Fire Protection District provided Naperville station coverage during the incident.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Naperville Fire Department’s investigations team. Damages to the home are estimated at 800,000 dollars. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters during the incident.
The City’s Transportation, Engineering, and development team deemed the house uninhabitable.
