2012 Bed Races found temporary home
Naperville will host an abbreviated Bed Race beginning at 11AM Sat., Oct. 20, at the South Gate Center, located at 24125 W. 111th Street, according to organizer Jeffrey Ross.
So come on down Saturday morning. It won’t take long!
First created as a Jaycees event that ran its course, then brought back to Porter Street behind Naper Settlement during Naper Days that also is on hiatus, the exciting Bed Races had been back on the schedule of the Last Fling, beginning at 11AM Sept 1.
Shortly before the September race, the event was canceled due to the weather forecast that ” called for 100 percent chance of rain at race time. It was a tough decision, but we had to play it safe.”
St. Patrick’s Residence is the defending champ. Will the Nuns on the Run have the luck of the Irish if the event is rescheduled?
Seven weeks later, weather permitting, tomorrow will tell.

According to Bob Parida with Sparks Car Care at least two teams of bed racers will compete at 11AM Sat., Oct. 20. The public is welcome to the free event.
Parida added that the Naperville Area Humane Society also will be in attendance with dogs up for adoption.
South Gate Center at 24125 W. 111th Street is just west of Route 59.
The designs of the bed racers always have been among the most innovative features of the Last Fling, a four-day family-friendly festival with many events and activities all along the Jackson Avenue, the Riverwalk and Rotary Hill.
The Bed Races along Porter Avenue will return during the 2013 Last Fling, weather permitting.
