Through March 23, Art exhibit: NCC presents the artwork of Mary Bookwalter, Janice Meister and Carol Weber through March 23 in the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St. Also friends, the artists showcase a mixed media collage of their collective work in “Studio Conversations.”

Feb. 3-March 26, Art exhibit: NCC presents work by Angie Lister, Feb. 3 through March 26, in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Inspired by the interplay between the natural world and manmade objects, Lister’s work explores the dynamic relationship between shapes, forms and colors. An artist’s reception will be held at 6PM Friday, Feb. 3; complimentary refreshments will be served.

Feb. 4, Gospel music: NCC hosts the 29th annual Gospel Extravaganza at 7:30PM Saturday, Feb. 4, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Titled “Chicagoland Showcase,” the concert features local church, high school, college and professional gospel groups in a night of high-spirited music and praise. Tickets are $15/adults, $10/students and seniors.

Feb. 9, Lecture: NCC hosts a lecture about the representation of gender in Hollywood “environmental disaster” films at 7PM Thursday, Feb. 9, in the College’s Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St. Presented by Columbia College professor Michelle Yates, the lecture is cosponsored by North Central’s academic departments in environmental studies, gender and women studies, communication and media studies. Feb. 10, Music: NCC presents “An Evening with Jazz Trumpeter Art Davis” at 8PM Friday, Feb. 10, at the College’s Madden Theatre at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. One of Chicago’s leading jazz trumpet artists, Davis has toured with Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra and Rosemary Clooney. Tickets are $20/adults and $15/students and seniors.

Feb. 11, Transfer information session: NCC will host an information session Saturday, Feb. 11, for transfer students. Visitors can learn about academic choices, transfer admission process, scholarships and financial aid. Registration begins at 9:30AM in Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Feb. 11, Music: NCC presents Cindy Herron-Braggs, Terry Ellis and Rhonda Bennett as En Vogue in concert at 8PM Saturday, Feb. 11, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The group fuses style and sass in its music and has sold more than 20 million albums with songs like “Free Your Mind,” “Don’t Let Go” and “Whatta Man” featuring Salt-N-Pepa. Tickets are $85 and $75.

Feb. 12, Music: The DuPage Symphony Orchestra presents its concert “Russian Majesty” at 3PM Sunday, Feb. 12, in NCC’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Internationally acclaimed pianist Steven Lin is guest soloist. Tickets range from $38 to $15.

Feb. 13, Music: NCC’s Spanish department and student club Fusion Española cohost The Guitars of Spain for a return performance and captivating blend of flamenco music and dance at 7PM Monday, Feb. 13. Feb. 17, Music: NCC features its choral and instrumental ensembles in “Explore the Sound” at 7:30PM Friday, Feb. 17, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Theatrically lit and staged, the ensembles perform music from virtually every nook and cranny of the great concert hall. Tickets are $10/adults and $3/students and seniors.

Feb. 19, Music: Chicago a cappella presents its concert “Bound for Glory” at 4PM Sunday, Feb. 19, in NCC’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. For tickets and more info, visit chicagoacappella.org.

Feb. 19, Jazz: NCC presents Chicago-based jazz vocalist Alyssa Allgood at 6PM Sunday, Feb. 19, in the College’s Madden Theatre, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Her debut EP “Lady Bird” was recommended by Chicago Jazz Magazine and named a Best Release of 2015 in All About Jazz. Tickets are $35 and $30.

Feb. 20, Visit Day: High school students and their parents or guardians are invited to attend NCC’s Visit Day on Monday, Feb. 20, in the Wentz Concert Hall lobby, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Visitors can choose to attend a morning session with check-in at 9:30AM or a later one at 11:45AM. Both sessions offer opportunities to take a walking tour and attend informative sessions on financial aid, academic highlights and student life, with optional tours of athletic and fine arts facilities. Feb. 21, Graduate programs open house: NCC hosts an open house for interested graduate students from 6 to 7:30PM Tuesday, Feb. 21, in Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St. Students can meet with faculty, alumni and staff of North Central’s School of Graduate & Professional Studies to learn about our graduate degree programs, including a new master of nonprofit management and leadership degree. Feb. 21, Lecture: NCC hosts Dr. Amanda Seligman for a lecture on the topic “Chicago’s Block Clubs: How Neighbors Shape the City,” which is also the title of her recent book. The free lecture begins at 7PM Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St. Professor and chair of history at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Seligman is working on the “Encyclopedia of Milwaukee.” For more information contact Judy Brodhead at jabrodhead@noctrl.edu.

Feb. 23-26, Theatre: NCC seniors will stage and direct four performances of the Olivier Award-winning musical “Once On This Island” at 7:30PM Feb. 23-25 and at 2PM Feb. 26 in the College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. This highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale “The Little Mermaid” garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run. Tickets are $15/adults and $10/students and seniors.

Feb. 24, Music: NCC presents award-winning guitarist and singer Ana Popovic at 8PM Friday, Feb. 24, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Popovic blends electric funk and slide guitar, jazzy instrumentals and a tight blues groove with soulful vocals. Nearly all her albums made it the Top 5 of the Billboard Blues Charts and are played regularly on radio nationwide. Tickets are $35 and $25.

Feb. 26, International Festival: NCC hosts its 21st annual International Festival “Around the Corner, Around the World” from noon to 4PM Sunday, Feb. 26, in the College’s Gregory Arena at Merner Field House, 450 S. Brainard St. The festival features performances, educational booths, language immersion rooms and food for purchase. Tickets are $6/person at the door or $5/person in advance. All proceeds benefit the International Scholarship Fund to support international students coming to NCC. Feb. 26, Theatre: ArtsPower National Touring Theatre presents two performances of the children’s production “The Rainbow Fish” at noon and 3PM Sunday, Feb. 26, in NCC’s Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. This glimmering musical production is all about the value of sharing true friendship with others. Tickets are $12 and $6.

Feb. 27, Film: NCC’s sociology department and Office of Multicultural Affairs present a screening of the 2011 documentary “Precious Knowledge” at 7PM Monday, Feb. 27, in the College’s Harold and Eva White Activities Center, 325 E. Benton Ave. The film documents disenfranchised high school seniors in Tucson’s embattled Ethnic Studies classes who become academic warriors and community leaders while state lawmakers try to eliminate the program.
